I'm leading a small group through this study and we're only on week 2 but thus far it has hit the mark. It requires weekly homework (i.e. time in the Word) and the message notes (MacArthur's version) are really useful and included next to the scripture (also printed in the books). It's a great stand alone study but I'm also using a study bible and some other resources to get the most out of it. Feedback has been positive and encouraging.
The best small group study guides I've encountered

There are several elements of this study which I believe ranks it at the top of Bible study guides. First, within each chapter it has all the text of the New King James version of that Bible chapter, with notes that are well written, informative and thought provoking - running parallel to the Bible text. In a small group setting, then, everyone is reading from the same translation when group members read aloud. More useful than you might think. In addition to the study questions, it has cross references, sections to aid in deeper understanding, and references to Bible passages in other books of the Bible on the same subject. The questions are very well written and especially useful in a small group setting, because they encourage genuine sharing and careful thought.; something I haven't always encountered in other studies.
Picked the study guide as our small group decided on 1 Corinthians. Had heard good things about John MacArthur Bible Studies. Purchased it & our group is enjoying studying the bible with so much more information verse by verse. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to go deeper in studying the bible.
I purchased this book for our group Bible Study and we love it! It has a nice combination or historical/Biblical background, good assortment of scriptural study (books/verses to support I Corinthians), and the discussion questions facilitated excellent conversation. We are very pleased with it and would recommend it to other.
