1 & 2 Peter provide encouragement and assurance from one who himself needed both; they give basic instruction in Christian living; they provide clear teaching on false doctrine. Although written in the 17th Century, this practical treatment is useful for pastors, teachers, group leaders, and all students or readers of the Bible.

This commentary was originally published in 1658 and the style reflects the era. Nisbet employs a style of prose that most post-modern readers will find hard to get into; he also uses words that are out of date. If you can get past your initial resistance to his antiquated style and word-usage, Nisbet's commentary is wonderful. If you're sick of superficial easy-believism that says that Christians should be fabulously wealthy, enormously influential, and always healthy than the old boys have a great deal to say. Nisbet's comments in 1 Peter on the reality of suffering is so refreshing and worth the price of the book. A challenging but worthwhile read from the pen of a deeply faithful servant of Christ.
